For the last couple of weeks I’ve walked into my local gun store and fingered the same HK USP compact. Lord knows I don’t need it, and the shops price is a bit high for a used USP, but for some reason I can’t help but continue to go to the gun store and talk myself out of buying it.

For a couple years now I have been fascinated with the USP. I’ve owned a USP 45 Tactical and USP 40 compact. I no longer own these guns, but recently i’ve longed for another USP. Something about the lines on the USP call to me, it’s such a mechanically sexy gun.

I’m not the biggest fan of double action single action triggers, but the trigger on the USP is crisp and is very rewarding every time you pull it. The reset is seriously underrated and is one of the best stock reset triggers in the business.

At the end of the day, the one thing about the H&K USP series of guns that keep me coming back to the gun shop is the damn slide. Racking the slide on a USP is like closing the door on a Mercedes G55. It’s so dramatic and ostentatious all you want to do is close it again and again because it feels like your closing the door to a vault.

The slide on an HK USP tells you everything you need to know about the quality of the gun. I just want to keep racking it over and over and over again. The slide is so precise and deliberate you feel like you’re doing more than simply racking the slide of the gun, but that’s enough of my love fest for the USP.

Do any of you have a “Something About it Gun”?
