Colorado’s shooting community is not taking the state’s latest round of Second Amendment infringements lying down. A prominent 2A advocacy group filed a legal challenge to protect gun rights for law-abiding citizens.
The Mountain States Legal Foundation (MSLF) sent a shot across the bow Tuesday with the filing of a 28-page lawsuit in a Colorado federal court.
The group represents six individuals and the Colorado Shooting Sports Association (CSSA).

The law, which takes effect next year, bans the sale and manufacture of nearly every semi-automatic centerfire weapon as well as large-format handguns accepting detachable magazines.
Law would leave a decorated veteran disarmed
If a stubborn citizen still wants to obtain one of these popular firearms, they must undergo a 12-hour training course approved by the state.
A course that has yet to be developed.
Exemptions are in place for those with a valid concealed carry permit or a recent Colorado hunter safety certificate. They are allowed to own these prohibited weapons by merely submitting to a four-hour course.
Decorated Air Force veteran Israel Del Toro is the lead plaintiff, and he has a very personal reason to oppose Colorado’s gun control regime.
He survived a terrorist IED blast in Afghanistan but was left with severe injuries and a lengthy rehabilitation process.
With the new law taking effect next year, Del Toro would no longer have access to the accessories that would make defending himself possible—no force-reset triggers, no AR-platform pistols or other items that the veteran could utilize.
In a statement, the MSLF declared that the state law “bans the only firearms and accessories he can physically use…effectively denying him the ability to defend himself. Colorado is trying to take away the very freedoms he fought to protect.”
