It’s easy to become a holster snob in today’s world of holsters where holsters are made of adamantium steel and can hold your gun and give you the secret to life. Like many, I started off with using cheap holsters and as time went on I upgraded to the latest and greatest of holsters. However, the other day I realized I still find myself wearing ten dollar holsters pretty consistently.
Before you holster queens’ start in on me, I understand the limitations or cheap holsters and the advantages of expensive holsters, but let’s be clear, cheap holsters still have their place.
Let’s take a look.
1. You don’t care about them
You don’t worry about losing cheap holsters because, well, they’re cheap. It’s not like losing a fancy kydex holster that cost you your soul to buy. With fancy holsters you also have to wait two life times before they arrive. On the other hand, if you lose a cheap holster, you walk into the store the next day and walk out with a cheap holster.
2. Gym shorts/sweat pants holster
Kydex sucks for conceal carry, when it comes to sweat pants, but a cheap Black Hawk nylon holster is perfect and very comfortable. The clips on a cheap holster work really well with belt-less pants. This is because, cheap holsters with clips don’t depend on the pressure of your body against the holster to keep the holster in your pants when you draw.
3. One size fits all temporary holster
A lot of cheap holsters are one size fits all, and that can come in really handy if you tend to loose your holsters or forget to bring it with you when you carry off body. When you buy guns like food, buying separate holsters for each gun gets really expensive, and keeping up with all of them is a pain.
4. Comfort
Say what you want about cheap holsters, their pliability makes them extremely comfortable. Kydex fights with your body and leather takes decades to break in, but the cheap nylon holsters instantly forms to your body making them a comfortable carry option.
5. Not everyone is a billionaire
At the end of the day, any holster is better than no holster. Everyone who owns a gun can’t also afford $70 for a holster. So, getting a cheap holster is their only option.
