The idea of a home invasion was something rarely thought of in decades past. There were the run-of-the-mill burglars, of course, but the horrifying breach of what should be a family’s safe dwelling by groups of gun-wielding violent criminals was almost unheard of.

No more.

All too often, evildoers believe that the sheer shock and awe of bursting into a residence threatening the lives of the occupants is somehow a good idea. Unfortunately for them, more and more Americans decided to be their own first responders by lawfully arming themselves to be ready for such a situation.

Yet another incident unfolded in the Sunshine State in recent days.

An armed Florida homeowner turned the tables on two alleged attackers in the wee hours of the morning Wednesday, killing one and sending the other running away for dear life.

The St. Petersburg man was undoubtedly startled when the intrusion was detected around 2 a.m., but he reacted quickly and decisively.

One of the suspects in the attempted home invasion was wounded before he was transported to an area hospital by responding emergency personnel. He did not survive and has since been identified as 20-year-old Marcel James Williams.

The St. Petersburg Police Department reported that the second home invasion suspect fled and has not been located.

Investigators described the frightening incident as “targeted” and believe there is no ongoing danger to the public.

It is a risky proposition to burst into someone’s home intent on terrorizing them into submission. Tens of millions of Americans are legally armed thanks to the Second Amendment, and ready to stand against these criminal attacks—with deadly force if necessary.

There is no celebration of the loss of life, but wrongdoers must be aware of the risks inherent in a home invasion. This time, the price was incredibly high.
