Very little is more disturbing than having an intruder break into your home, day or night. When that intruder turns out to be naked, it raises even more alarm bells that this is a dangerous situation.
A California couple found themselves in this hairy situation at about 11:35 in the morning on Tuesday. The man and his wife encountered the alleged home invader after he entered through a front window—without a stitch of clothing.
While this might make for a comedy sketch in some situations, in real life, it is far from funny. Whether the suspect is addled by drink or illegal substances or suffering from a mental health episode, the fact that they forced entry into the residence removes any possible humor.
Chino police were called to the scene by the understandably upset wife, who told authorities that her husband shot the intruder when he gained entry.
Responding officers found the suspect was “completely disrobed and appeared to be under the influence of drugs.”
Local media identified the man as 21-year-old Svens Sokolovskis of Whittier.
He suffered gunshot wounds to his “lower extremities” and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. At last report, Sokolovskis was listed in stable condition, and he faces a heap of trouble when he recovers.
Investigators will present evidence gathered to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office.
This is California, and self-defense rights are not held nearly there as sacred as they are in other parts of the nation. Still, the husband was not arrested, and it is highly doubtful that he will face charges for protecting his family.
Chino Police Chief Kevin Mensen said in a statement that he was grateful the intended victims were unharmed. “I had the opportunity to meet with them and offer our department’s support as they recover from this traumatic experience. Their strength and composure in the face of such a frightening situation is truly commendable.”
