A horrifying act of violence against a minor in an Indiana hotel room was stopped by an armed mother, according to court documents and law enforcement officials.
The disturbing scenario erupted on Saturday and ended with the alleged attacker in the hospital. Some of the circumstances of the incident reported to authorities are unclear, but the most serious details are chilling.
Suspect allegedly attacked minor in hotel room
According to WTHR, the intended victim’s grandmother told investigators that “a man named Bruce Pierce had been communicating with the 12-year-old online and over the phone.”
She said that the 34-year-old suspect had tried to convince the minor to run away with him. The 12-year-old went with her aunt to the Baymont Inn, where her mother and Pierce were.
Family members were removing items from their car downstairs, and the girl was left in the hotel room due to feeling ill.
When they returned, they found Pierce allegedly attacking the 12-year-old on the bed. The mother drew her weapon and fired numerous rounds, resulting in the suspect being transported to an Indianapolis hospital in critical condition.
Suspect reportedly had previous conviction for child molestation
The suspect faces charges including attempted rape, attempted child molestation, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, and confinement where the victim is under 14 years of age.
Pierce reportedly pleaded guilty to child molestation in 2016 and was sentenced to eight years in prison.
The intended victim was examined at the hospital after her ordeal, and no physical injuries were reported. Her mother’s armed intervention likely saved her from an indescribable trauma, and that should be credited to her foresight to exercise her Second Amendment rights.
There are few, if any, circumstances that cry out louder for armed intervention than an attack on an innocent child. The mother is fortunate that she was armed, as the alleged attacker reportedly also had a weapon.
