The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) recognized National Shooting Sports Month as both its founder and chief proponent. August is set aside to honor this fine pastime and ensure that rights and privileges are safeguarded for future generations.
The event encourages gun rights advocates to support local retailers and ranges, and to stand up for Second Amendment freedoms. Tens of millions of law-abiding Americans already enjoy hunting and target shooting, and there are many new enthusiasts to welcome into the fold.
Gun rights enthusiasts recognize the many benefits of sport shooting
President Donald Trump (R) issued a proclamation for National Shooting Sports Month.
“Since the ratification of the Second Amendment in 1791, shooting sports have instilled the values of focus, discipline, and confidence in our citizens—connecting generations, binding together communities, and reminding us of the freedoms that define our Republic. Sports like hunting and fishing also provide a glimpse into the beauties of God’s creation and allow countless Americans to experience the splendors of the great outdoors.”
August is a great time to remember the legacy of centuries of sport shooting traditions
Besides enthusiasts who are the lifeblood of the tradition, the NSSF also noted that the firearm industry deserves both honor and protection.
“It is also a month in which we recognize the contributions the firearm industry makes to communities, states, and our nation,” NSSF President and CEO Joe Bartozzi declared. “This is a $70 billion industry that provides over 375,000 jobs. Our industry has welcomed increasing numbers of women and minority gun owners. We are proud to welcome responsible gun owners from all walks of life to celebrate our shared heritage.”
Shooting sports have expanded in recent years to include corporate participation in everything from team-building exercises to fundraisers. Clubs and organizations are an increasingly popular way to socialize with likeminded Second Amendment advocates.
