As some states stubbornly and consistently bend the knee to anti-gunners and attempt to eradicate gun rights, Florida is on a notably different path.
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced on Monday that the Sunshine State will hold the Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday on all hunting firearms, as well as ammunition and other outdoor-related items.
Just in time for hunting season.
The sporting public will enjoy significant savings through year’s end
The Florida Department of Revenue released a comprehensive list of exempt items.
They include firearms, ammunition, optics, stocks, handles, cleaning kits, and other essential accessories. Bowhunters can also celebrate by avoiding sales taxes on bows, crossbows, arrows, quivers, sights, and a host of related goods.
There are even items specifically for camping and fishing that are included in the sales tax holiday, which runs through Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
Florida’s tax holiday is unique in its duration
DeSantis told reporters that the statewide event is part of a push to protect gun rights and keep taxpayer dollars in their pockets.
“We’re committed to helping Floridians keep more of their hard-earned money, and the Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday is one way to do that,” DeSantis declared. “Florida is a great state for outdoor adventure and exercising your Second Amendment rights, and we’re working to keep it that way.”
The governor signed the holiday into law in June with the intention of it spanning only six weeks. Mississippi and Louisiana also host such events, but they are only three-day weekends.
Experts predict the holiday will save Florida taxpayers $44.8 million. The state regularly grants these tax breaks for school supplies and hurricane preparedness, though these purchases are price capped.
There is no such cap for the Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday. Purchasing higher-end items will bring significant savings in the coming months.
