It’s bad enough for a South Carolina man that he was shot in the shoulder in a mall last week. While recovering, he learned that he also faces assault charges.
Not so for the individual who shot him. That shopper just discovered that he is off the hook for what officials believe was a justified self-defense shooting.
The scene was the Rock Hill Galleria, and it was apparently a typical shopping day on Friday afternoon when, suddenly, the tranquility of the mall was shattered.
Alleged mall attacker suddenly faced an intended victim with a loaded firearm
Investigators with the Rock Hill Police Department determined that the confrontation began with the shooter being attacked “both verbally and physically.” There were no initial indications as to what led to the altercation.
However, 26-year-old Martrell Telly Minter of Chester suffered the worst end of the exchange. The unidentified intended victim had a loaded firearm, and that dramatically turned the tables on the counter.
First responders treated Minter before he was transported to the hospital. His troubles are far from over, as investigators determined that he was the instigator in the incident.

Minter faces charges including third-degree assault and battery.
The good news is that the shooter, who used a legally owned firearm to fend off the alleged attacker, escaped unscathed and will not face charges.
One mall shopper, Saint Hilarie, expressed shock that a violent outburst erupted during her experience. “I just moved down here, and I heard there’s nothing crazy like that that happens over here.”
Unfortunately, 2025’s reality is that there is nowhere off-limits for violent criminals. That’s why it is critical to be ready to defend oneself and loved ones at a moment’s notice, and for many, part of that preparation involves a legal weapon.
