Rumors swirling around the Second Amendment community quickly became fact on Monday when legendary firearms manufacturer Glock announced it would undergo a radical and unexpected change.

The Austrian gunmaker will stop producing most current models amid a flurry of lawsuits and lawfare. California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) recently signed AB 1127 into law, a ban on Glock and similar handguns due to criminals using conversion switches to give the firearms fully automatic functionality.

Then there are numerous reports—strongly denied by the company—that specific models are prone to accidental discharge.

Glock announced the discontinuation of many popular models next month

As is standard in 2025, word initially leaked on social media.

Lenny Magill’s Glockstore, an internationally noted gun dealer, posted the surprising message. “We have received news that as of November 30th all Glocks are discontinued except 43, 43X, 48X. All Glocks will be replaced with new Glock ‘V Models.’ These will have changes that prevent switch conversions. At launch, all will be non-MOS. No pricing changes.”

Most observers believe the changes are due to trouble with ‘Glock switches’

The company’s statement followed shortly thereafter.

“In order to focus on the products that will drive future innovation and growth, we are making a strategic decision to reduce our current commercial portfolio,” Glock officials declared. “This streamlined approach allows us to concentrate on continuing to deliver the highest-quality and most relevant solutions for the market.”

Glock will continue to service discontinued models, and law enforcement services will be mostly unaffected.

The gunmaker is under intense legal pressure over the use of so-called “Glock switches” by criminals. While these are already illegal under federal law, the cities of Chicago, Baltimore, and Seattle, along with the states of New Jersey and Minnesota, are suing.

Whether the radical changes at Glock head off pending legal action remains to be seen.
