New Hampshire Lawmakers Act to Strengthen 2A Protections

The war raging between state and local governments over who may restrict constitutional liberties expanded into New Hampshire in recent days. A bill reestablishing the Legislature’s supremacy over local agencies and entities advanced and moved closer to becoming law.

House Bill 609 is the brainchild of Rep. Samuel Farrington (R), and it narrowly mustered enough votes to clear a House committee this week. Its passage would be a significant step toward safeguarding Second Amendment rights for future generations.

Supporters seek to establish the Legislature’s supremacy regarding gun laws

Farrington explained that HB 609 is designed to correct existing loopholes in New Hampshire’s current gun regulations.

“The intent here is to emphasize that the Legislature’s preemption is the last word on the subject,” the state senator told the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee.

Farrington sprang into action after he learned that the state Department of Transportation bans its employees from possessing weapons while on duty.

It is not surprising that New Hampshire is angling to protect 2A freedoms

New Hampshire is a strong gun rights state with a rich history of sporting traditions and the defense of constitutional freedoms. It does not require law-abiding citizens to crawl to the government for permission to exercise a right established centuries ago.

Preemption, as it currently stands in New Hampshire, was created in 2003 and expanded in 2011. Still, Second Amendment advocates caution that without strengthening state protections, some events could remain off-limits to armed citizens.

And the 2A community is only too familiar with the damage that can be wrought by local radicals unencumbered by preemption. New Hampshire’s battle is one that is being waged across the nation.

The full House should vote on HB 619 early next year, and the chamber’s party makeup and the bill’s strong support from the gun rights community give it a good chance of becoming law.

There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.

Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
