That’s the tone of an Associated Press report last week blasting the capability of private citizens to create 3D-printed firearms.

The news outlet asserted that there was a danger to the public posed by a “surge” of untraceable firearms. Never mind that craftsmen produced their own weapons at home long before the founding of the Republic.

The writer leaned heavily on information from anti-Second Amendment group Everytown for Gun Safety. The organization reported that authorities recovered more than 300 of these firearms in 2024. Nationwide.

For this, Everytown convened a summit in New York City recently to plot strategies for stopping this latest outburst of constitutional freedom. Senior Vice President of Law and Policy Nick Suplina claimed that the pattern of 3D-printed guns seized by law enforcement is growing.
“We are now starting to see what kind of feels very familiar,” Suplina said. “It’s now at a small number of recoveries in certain major cities, such that it’s doubling or tripling year over year. We’re seeing this very familiar rate of growth and that’s why we’re getting this group together to discuss how to stop it.”
Organizers lamented price drops on equipment necessary for producing a 3D weapon. They also noted the proliferation of plans readily available online for such projects.
While anti-gunners see yet another threat that must be suppressed, gun rights supporters know that this freedom is another level of protection against government overreach. This is a battle that is just getting started.
