South Carolina’s ‘Stand Your Ground’ Law Protects Another Potential Victim

There is something profoundly fundamental about the right to self-defense. Anyone who does not believe that all law-abiding citizens have the freedom to use whatever force is necessary to protect themselves and their loved ones should be viewed with suspicion.

After all, why would any reasonable person oppose the right to “stand your ground” when faced with an unprovoked violent threat?

A South Carolina resident stood his ground Saturday night and is still here to tell the tale.

Suspect who allegedly kicked in an apartment door got more than he bargained for

According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, a man kicked his way into a Columbia apartment at around 10:30 p.m. It is unclear whether he was known to the resident, but he was obviously uninvited.

The intended victim managed to retrieve a loaded weapon and fired. The alleged perpetrator was struck at least once, and first responders found him in grave condition when they arrived.

He was transported to a Columbia hospital, where he later died. His name has not been released.

Man who defended himself from alleged attacker faced possible charges

No reasonable person celebrates the loss of life, but the suspect put himself in extreme danger when he reportedly kicked his way into another man’s apartment.

The good news is that Richland County authorities quickly reviewed the evidence and, by Wednesday, determined that the resident will not face charges. South Carolina’s “Stand Your Ground” doctrine protects citizens from legal blowback after clear cases of self-defense, and it certainly came into play with this case.

Critics charge that these laws recreate the Wild West and lead people to shoot first, ask questions later. But as this and so many other incidents prove, a legally armed person should not be forced to retreat when a violent criminal invades their home.

And that is a fundamental right.

There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.

Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
