It is foolhardy to think that in 2025 it is a good idea to force your way into someone’s home and that you will not face a lethal response. As more of these incidents occur, you would assume that violent criminals would get the message and pursue other interests.
Unfortunately, that is far from the case.
An alleged home invader ran into a hail of bullets Monday afternoon
It was just after noon on Monday when a Jackson, Mississippi, homeowner received quite the shock. Investigators believe he was at home when 27-year-old Randall Harris pushed his way inside.
According to a news release from the Jackson Police Department, “The investigation revealed that Harris had forcibly entered the residence and attacked the complainant. During the confrontation, the complainant discharged a firearm, striking Harris multiple times.”
First responders found the suspect suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he later died.
Sooner or later, the criminal element should get the message that it is unwise to invade someone’s home
There is no word amid the flurry of police reports as to whether the homeowner faces legal consequences for their defensive actions. That is highly doubtful if the circumstances of the incident hold up under investigation.
What it demonstrated in no uncertain terms is the power of the Second Amendment to enable good people to defend themselves from a violent attack. The Monday confrontation in Jackson is only the latest example of law-abiding citizens taking responsibility for their well-being.
It is unfortunate that the suspect succumbed to his injuries, but that is the risk a person assumes when they violate the sanctity of another’s home.
With any luck, such lethal incidents will convince those who operate outside the law that the risks involved with a home invasion outweigh the potential rewards.
