There are many instances in which misguided or outright discriminatory practices need only be exposed to the light of day to be finally ended. It is good to recognize when this reversal of course is taken and give credit to those who see the error of their ways.
Such is the case with Circle Internet Group (Circle), the issuer of the U.S. Dollar Coin (USDC) cryptocurrency.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) recently revealed that Circle included an insidious clause in its terms of service. Its crypto could not be utilized to purchase “weapons of any kind, including but not limited to firearms, ammunition, knives, explosives, or related accessories.”

This is a powerful company dictating to its clients how they may spend their own money. Incredibly, it prohibits them from engaging in transactions protected by the Second Amendment.
The revelation of blatant discrimination by the crypto firm came on the heels of the GENIUS Act, a federal measure to ensure stability and provide a framework for stablecoins backed by the U.S. dollar.
Circle apparently did a complete reversal
This innovative act was promoted as a means to legitimize what some saw as the Wild West of cryptocurrency. But what does it say about your credibility when one of your major players is so reckless in its policies?
To its credit, the company issued a statement indicating it would reverse the prohibition. “Circle has always held that to the right of lawful, the use of money should be free. This includes lawful purchases of firearms, [which] is a Second Amendment-protected right. As the GENIUS Act comes into force, Circle will work with our partners to ensure our values are reflected in our terms.”
Circle later clarified that it had changed its terms of service “to reflect that USDC may be used for the lawful purchase and sale of firearms, as protected under the Second Amendment.”
And that victory should be applauded.
