Tracking firearm transactions monthly is a great way to assess the overall health of the weapons industry. And though numbers are down from their peak during the disruptions of 2020, they remain robust and indicative of the hard work of Second Amendment advocates.
Gun sales for October, as gleaned from the adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), showed virtually no change from strong sales during the same month in 2024.
This is good news as multiple anti-gun states continue to suppress the right to keep and bear arms.
October is historically a prime month for firearm sales as hunting season gets into full swing
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the industry trade group, sifts through NICS data each month to determine how many firearms were sold.
For October, adjusted sales figures showed that 1.299 million firearms were sold. This is a slight drop from last October’s 1.303 million, but both are robust totals that eclipse all but four of the past 26 years.
Gun sales provide a reliable check on the industry’s health
Fall’s first full month traditionally sees an uptick in weapons sales from September as millions of Americans enjoy the nation’s rich hunting heritage.
It is critical that the gun rights advocates at NSSF compile this data to measure the relative health of the firearms industry. Such figures serve as a regular checkup for the free exercise of Second Amendment rights at a time when they are under siege from militant anti-gunners.
It is not enough to just enjoy the right to keep and bear arms.
This freedom also requires a robust manufacturing and retail sector so that law-abiding Americans may acquire firearms, ammunition, and the accessories necessary to exercise this liberty fully.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
