Apparently thinking there was safety and success in numbers, a group of five masked robbers charged into a California jewelry store late Thursday afternoon.
The headline of this potentially lethal encounter is the hasty retreat that the five suspects undertook when the establishment’s owner produced a firearm and began shooting.

The incident unfolded at Olivia’s Fine Jewelry in Madera. Security footage showed the five rushing into the business, with at least one of them climbing over the jewelry counter.
Authorities described the organized attack as “meticulous” and indicated it was likely not the first such rodeo for the masked gang.
The initial resistance came from a store clerk, who pushed one of the alleged robbers back over the top, causing the suspect’s pants to fall. Then the three-ring circus kicked into high gear when the store owner appeared with a handgun pointed at the suspects, changing the narrative quickly.

The five suspects hastily retreated from the jewelry store, apparently uninjured, even though video showed the owner rushing out of the building and continuing to fire shots at them. Local media reported the getaway car, a dark sedan, was found abandoned “outside the city” and had been reported stolen.
Unfortunately, the robbers managed to get away with a substantial haul despite the jewelry store owner’s heroic efforts.
Madera Police Sgt. Blake Short told ABC 7 that the “shocking” attack targeted a family operation. “It’s scary to the family because it is a mom-and-pop store, with family being your own employees. It’s your own business and your livelihood.”
No suspects have been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
