The erosion of constitutional freedoms will not always be announced from the rooftops and confirmed on the evening news. Sometimes it’s just the passing of a predetermined date that signals the end of a right likely taken for granted.
Delaware residents awakened on Sunday, November 16, to a new state gun control law.
Individuals must now apply for a permit to buy a handgun, complete an eight-hour safety course that includes firing at least 100 rounds, submit to fingerprinting, and pass a criminal background check.
The clear objective of anti-2A lawmakers in Delaware is the eradication of most gun ownership
If a Delaware resident already has a valid concealed carry permit, they are exempt from the controversial new law. There are other exemptions as well, but the statute’s intent is obvious.
And it’s working.
Jennifer Hagan is the co-owner of Best Shot. She told Concealed Nation that the law immediately affected her customers in her Lewes shop. “It’s already dramatically impacted my business.”
State officials created random barriers to exercising Second Amendment rights
The state claims the permit is “free,” and there is no charge specifically to obtain it. That’s a woefully small part of the story, as there is a slew of obstacles between the individual and taking possession of their new firearm.
The applicant must fork out an average of $125 for the safety course, purchase the required ammunition, pay for fingerprinting fees, and be excused from work or family responsibilities to jump through arbitrary hoops that should not exist.
Delaware officials are busily erecting every conceivable barrier between law-abiding citizens and gun ownership. A fundamental liberty that requires a permission slip from the government is not much of a freedom, and that’s what Second Amendment opponents continue to fight for.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
