A reasonable person would think twice in 2025 before attempting to rob an establishment that has typically been tied to such incidents. Pawn shops, liquor stores, and convenience stores are all known targets of violent criminals, and their proprietors are increasingly armed and prepared.
The same can be said for jewelry stores after a rash of recent confrontations. The latest unfolded in Utah when an Oregon man, along with an accomplice, allegedly attacked employees and customers and tried to restrain them.
Suspects donned intricate disguises for their alleged robbery attempt
Beyker Villegas, 22, of Redmond, is in a world of hurt today after an apparent robbery attempt last week quickly went sideways.
Murray Police Department investigators believe that Villegas and an accomplice entered Sierra-West Jewelers in very elaborate disguises. One had a long black wig while the other wore an unkempt brown wig with a fake mustache and beard.
When the assistant manager tried to assist them, they allegedly drew a weapon. The employee attempted to trigger the security alarm but was forced to the middle of the showroom floor by the suspects.
An ordinary day became anything but when two suspects attacked the business
The suspects shouted at employees in Spanish and allegedly attempted to tie up a female customer. That’s when the assistant manager was able to grab a loaded weapon and fire a shot into the floor, but that did not stop the attack.
According to police, the employee “shot another round toward Villegas. As the suspects ran outside, he hit Villegas in the head several times with his firearm.”
The assistant tried to stop the pair from leaving—not a good idea—but was dragged by their vehicle.
Shortly after, a man with a bullet wound to the stomach was dropped off at an urgent care center. Villegas, later identified as a Venezuelan citizen, was transported to a hospital for further treatment before being hit with numerous charges.
The second suspect remains on the loose.
