Virginia’s Second Amendment community knows it is in for a lengthy battle with the changing of the guard in the state.
Already saddled with an anti-2A majority in the Legislature, Old Dominion residents now await the swearing in of Governor-Elect Abigail Spanberger (D). She is expected to rubber-stamp a slew of bills infringing on the right to keep and bear arms.
Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) has been a stalwart defender of gun rights, but he was barred from seeking re-election immediately after his single term. So, what does this mean for Virginia’s sporting public?

It means that there is now a surge in NICS checks in the state, a sure sign that the good people are nervous about the coming changes.
Remember, Youngkin vetoed a wide array of blatant infringements on gun rights, and anti-2A lawmakers are chomping at the bit to reintroduce the previously failed bills.
The inauspicious roster included bans on so-called “assault weapons,” universal background checks, extended waiting periods, “red flag” laws, and the establishment of a vast network of “sensitive places” off-limits for carrying a weapon.

Interestingly, the Virginia numbers bucked the national trend, as reported by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). Thanksgiving week NICS checks were down a significant 13%, continuing the yearlong softness in the firearm industry after substantial and sustained growth.
