Turned aside by Minnesota lawmakers who know they must answer to the sporting public, Gov. Tim Walz (D) this week resorted to executive orders he claimed on Tuesday would address his state’s crime issue.
The former vice presidential candidate signed two orders establishing a Statewide Safety Council, studying the effect of “gun violence,” and promoting safe storage.

This result is a far cry from Walz’s futile push to ban so-called “assault weapons” after the Annunciation Catholic Church and School mass shooting. Two children died, and 30 others were injured in the horrific attack.
However, Walz and his cronies ignored the criminal and mental health aspects of the atrocity to focus on inanimate tools. Minnesota’s leadership attempted to call a special session to railroad through even more gun control, but that ran into a brick wall.
Second Amendment supporters narrowly controlled the House, and without their support, Walz was left signing weak executive orders.

There is also opposition to Walz’s proposals in the Senate, despite his party controlling the upper chamber. Gun rights supporters note that two Senate Democrats remain on the fence over the controversial push to ban popular sporting rifles.
The embattled governor promised his followers “incredibly aggressive” action on gun control.
Then he embarked on a series of staged “town hall” spectacles in which hand-selected “experts” and scripted responses were the order of the evening.
As for that “incredibly aggressive” battle plan? It is now limited due to opposition from the House, and there’s also the threat of legal action from Second Amendment groups if gun control actions go too far.
That’s not to say Walz gave up his schemes to infringe on the right to keep and bear arms. The new year promises a new confrontation over protecting constitutional rights from those who would render the American public defenseless.
