Conventional wisdom says that the best way to react to a violent threat is to avoid it in the first place, and that is undeniably true. But what happens when the intended victim is backed into a corner, dutifully calls law enforcement, and still the attack persists?
An Alabama man learned the answer to this question the hard way Sunday evening in what was reportedly a domestic dispute that spiraled wildly out of control.
It was about 7:30 p.m. when the suspect allegedly attacked his domestic partner—not for the first time—and she tried to escape and call emergency services.
Woman was waiting for the police, but ran out of time
Jack Kennedy is the commander of the Tuscaloosa Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit. He explained to reporters that the intended victim ran to a broken-down car to try to escape her alleged attacker.
“Last night, the female retreated to an inoperable vehicle to get away from the male during an argument,” Kennedy said. “While locked in the vehicle, she called 911 and reported that the male was beating on the windows of the vehicle attempting to break them to get to her. When police arrived on the scene, the male [had] been shot several times. The female stated she shot in self-defense.”
Alabama citizens enjoy strong protection when they use force in self-defense
The alleged attacker was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition from his bullet wounds.
Alabama’s position is clear. Law-abiding citizens have no duty to retreat and are permitted to use force—deadly if necessary—to defend themselves.
According to police officials, the woman in this case retreated when she did not have to, and still the attack continued. Authorities will present evidence to the grand jury, but charges against the intended victim appear unlikely, considering Alabama’s Stand Your Ground laws.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
