One of the reasons for the massive surge in female gun ownership in recent years is the sometimes volatile nature of breakups. While most spouses and partners are mature enough to move on, there are always a few who attempt to hold on to what is obviously gone.
A violent encounter in Oklahoma last week is a stark reminder of the priceless value of armed self-defense.
Police believe suspect broke his former girlfriend’s residence
According to Tulsa Police investigators, 27-year-old Sean Six broke into a home early Tuesday where his unidentified ex-girlfriend was staying with a friend. It was the dead of night, approximately 2:45 a.m., when the occupants were undoubtedly startled by the interruption.
A friend of the apparent target was thankfully not defenseless, and they grabbed a loaded weapon and fired.
Six suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported to an area hospital. He did not survive the shooting, which is believed to have been the culmination of a day of threatening messages.
Suspect allegedly forewarned his targets in the hours before the attack
Tulsa Police Captain Richard Meulenberg told reporters that there was a clear buildup to the deadly confrontation.
“Throughout the day, he had sent several text messages to his girlfriend, to the shooter, threatening them,” the captain told reporters. “Threatening physical violence on them, and apparently, he was doing this throughout the day to other people as well.”
Investigators learned that Six recently lived in the home where he was fatally shot but had packed his belongings and left hours before he was killed.
The suspect allegedly warned his intended targets, and they were prepared. It is a testament to the power of the Second Amendment that people who easily could have been victims emerged unscathed.
