Maryland’s Liability Lawsuit Against Glock Advances

The shameless attacks on the weapons industry by powerful anti-gunners show no signs of abating, even with established federal law protecting Second Amendment-related businesses.

On Monday, State Judge John Nugent of the Baltimore City Circuit Court rejected Glock’s attempt to have the city’s suit against the venerable manufacturer dismissed. The municipality, along with the State of Maryland and Everytown for Gun Safety, sued in February of 2025.

The plaintiffs claimed that Glock’s products were too easily converted into automatic weapons.

Anti-gun forces filed a wave of suits against Glock over the convertibility issue, and five months ago, the company made a significant announcement.

The gunmaker introduced its new lineup of handguns, the “V Series,” which were touted as more difficult to modify. This did not mollify Glock’s enemies, who continue to engage in lawfare in hopes of destroying the company.

Maryland wants gun manufacturers held liable for third-party actions

In 2005, Congress and the President enacted the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) to head off exactly these kinds of attacks.

In an attempt to circumvent the PLCAA, Maryland passed the Gun Industry Accountability Act (GIAA) in 2024. This controversial statute permits the state attorney general to sue firearm manufacturers over what it claims are industry actions that harm public safety.

Never mind that criminal acts are committed by third parties who must be held accountable. A constitutionally protected industry and its products are subjected to litigation with the sole purpose of driving it into the ground.

According to the plaintiffs, Glock faced an issue that it could have resolved but “has chosen not to.” They charged that modifications to handguns could have been made without adversely affecting performance or safety.

The case now proceeds to the discovery phase.
