It is said that the only thing a professional sniper fears is another professional sniper. For violent criminals, it’s past time they realized and responded to the tens of millions of armed homeowners who are also armed and ready for them.
In San Jacinto, California, on Friday night, a suspect with a shotgun had the extreme misfortune of encountering such a citizen when he allegedly started a confrontation that cost him his life.
Homeowner responded to what was an undoubtedly confusing incident
Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a residence at about 10:30 p.m. on reports of an armed intruder forcing his way into the dwelling. Upon arrival, they discovered an individual suffering from what would soon be a fatal gunshot wound.
It is unclear how many people were inside when the intruder burst in. RSO officials released a statement detailing what they found upon arrival.
“During the investigation, deputies learned the homeowner was visiting a neighboring residence when he heard screaming and the sound of gunfire from his residence,” the Sheriff’s Office explained. “The homeowner ran to his residence and saw an unknown male intruder inside his home, armed with a shotgun.”
Even in California, armed self-defense is still an option
The homeowner secured a weapon to defend himself with, and authorities say the intruder fired multiple rounds at the man confronting him. To his credit, the intended victim did not panic and fired at least one shot that struck the suspect.
The unidentified intruder was pronounced dead at the scene, and though no arrests were made, the homeowner was taken to the Sheriff’s Department for questioning.
There is no word on a possible motive for the intrusion, and the good citizen who defended himself was not given time to do anything other than react the way he did. Whether the attack was criminal activity or due to a mental health crisis, you cannot enter a stranger’s home and fire a weapon and not expect a strong response.
