The American appetite for firearms and accessories, particularly with the hated NFA tax on suppressors now a thing of the past, shows no signs of abating.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the firearm industry trade group, reported that August data showed a robust 10% increase in background checks for gun purchases over the same month last year.
August numbers prove robust passion for firearms and accessories
Mark Oliva, NSSF public affairs officer, told Guns.com that even in trying times, sales figures are strong. “The fact that over 1.1 million times Americans purchased a firearm at retail to invest in their Second Amendment freedoms indicates that exercising lawful firearm ownership matters in America.”
Then there’s the wholly rejuvenated passion for hearing-protecting suppressors.
The NSSF tallied a remarkable 201.6% increase in silencer transfers over August 2025. The tax on these items ended this year, and a Texas judge recently simplified the hoops a purchaser must go through to acquire these accessories–at least for some.
Oliva noted the explosive surge in suppressor sales. “The meteoric growth of over 200 percent of National Firearms Act (NFA) items is especially telling that Americans continue to invest in suppressors and understand and appreciate the value of using a simple device that not only preserves hearing but makes recreational shooting more enjoyable.”
Americans will exercise 2A rights even more without government interference
Breitbart News reported that law-abiding citizens now own approximately 6.65 million suppressors in the U.S.
With Hollywood myths about these accessories thoroughly debunked and the government’s tax-based suppression over, it is no wonder that so many people utilize these devices for hearing protection and to be good neighbors.
If the Texas ruling expands, that number will be even more remarkable. As Oliva observed, the American public treasures the right to keep and bear arms and, if unshackled by an overbearing bureaucracy, will exercise that liberty even more.
