It must be noted that the mainstream media’s idea of a “machine gun” is straight out of The Untouchables, and too many who’ve never set foot on a shooting range glance at an AR-15 and immediately clutch their pearls.
So, when a weapon is described as such, take it with a hefty grain of salt until someone who actually knows firearms weighs in. But a recent case out of Missouri stands out for accounts that a suspect responded to a confrontation with a fully automatic weapon.
Altercation turned deadly when suspect returned to residence
Reportedly, a man from St. John on Thursday, Aug. 13, had an altercation at a Normandy residence and was then asked to leave. He did, only to allegedly return with a “machine gun” hours later.
The Normandy Police Department (NPD) released a statement describing the deadly encounter.
“The preliminary investigation indicates that the male subject had been involved in an earlier incident at the residence during which he was asked to leave the property,” authorities reported. “The subject later returned to the residence reportedly armed with a firearm described as a machine gun.”
Authorities said the suspect entered by “punching his way inside,” and officers responding to the burglary-in-progress learned en route that the situation escalated into a shooting.
Officials are tight-lipped as investigation continues
NPD officials said law enforcement “located the male subject inside the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately initiated life-saving measures, and the male was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.”
Police later identified the suspect as 42-year-old Jody Jordan.
Local authorities faced criticism about how they handled details of the investigation, and more information is expected.
Police said the criminal investigation remains open, and a more specific account of the deadly incident is currently unavailable. But if the facts hold as initially reported, an armed resident took on a man carrying a machine gun with their own weapon and walked away.
