Some say that enjoying life is all about celebrating small victories. If that’s true, Second Amendment advocates have another reason to be thankful despite the ongoing war with radical anti-gunners.
Resistance is growing against the insidious permit-to-carry schemes enacted in New Jersey and elsewhere. Good people are fed up with being forced to pay to exercise their constitutional rights, and they are fighting back.
City leaders sought to remove most of the financial burden of the state’s permit system
Another Garden State municipality announced that it will do everything in its power to nullify the state mandate. Howell city officials passed a resolution to rebate fees forced upon gun owners.
Councilman Ian Nadel told Bearing Arms that Howell leaders wanted to remove a needless burden from law-abiding gun owners and support the Constitution.
“By refunding the majority of concealed carry permit fees, Howell is removing the financial burden that was unfairly placed on our residents by the state Legislature,” Nadel explained. “Residents merely want to exercise their constitutional and natural-born freedoms—all of which are solidified in our Nation’s Bill of Rights.”

This brings the total to a dozen New Jersey cities and towns that gave Second Amendment opponents the middle finger in recent weeks.
The movement emerged quietly in June, when city leaders in Englishtown became the first in the U.S. to pass a resolution declaring the permit-to-carry fee violates the Constitution. It began refunding the municipal portion of the $150 fee, the not-insubstantial sum of $125.
Since that day, 11 other municipalities followed suit as a groundswell of support from 2A organizations propelled the effort forward.
As for Howell, the city reportedly will process fee refunds for some 638 permit-to-carry applicants. It will be telling to note how many other cities and towns follow their lead and return hard-earned money to their good citizens.
