The frequency with which anti-gun stalwarts claim to “support the Second Amendment” would be high comedy if it were not so serious. New Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) uttered those words—right before pushing through a radical gun control program that rivals some of the most egregious in the Union.
Now, a pair of lawmakers on Capitol Hill wants to replicate her “success” on the national stage.
Proposal is nothing more than an expansive wish list for 2A opponents
Sens. Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Mark Warner (D) proposed the “Virginia Plan to Reduce Gun Violence Act.” Rest assured, it is a dream list that every Second Amendment opponent would pay to have implemented in every state.
Among the proposal’s provisions are the obligatory ban on so-called “assault weapons.” Millions of law-abiding Americans own these extremely popular and common firearms, but the Virginia duo wants to see that end.
Then there’s gun rationing.
Proponents want to control every aspect of lawful gun ownership
The people would be limited to purchasing only one handgun per month. The stated justification is to “promote domestic and international security,” but the purpose is nothing less than government control.
There’s much more, from reporting requirements if a handgun is stolen that punish the victim to sweeping bans on “ghost guns.” Add to that a broad prohibition on lawful carry in many public spaces and new storage restrictions, and the Senate duo propose to infringe on a constitutional right in an alarming way.
They even called it a “commonsense framework to reduce gun violence.”
There is no other enumerated liberty established by the Founding Fathers that lawmakers would dare to treat with such utter disregard. But the right to keep and bear arms attracts radical distractors like little else, and they all claim to “support” the Second Amendment.
