Wednesday’s attack on Catholic schoolchildren by a lunatic in Minneapolis shook the nation and should have brought a renewed focus on the mental health crisis gripping the country.
Instead, it sent opponents of Second Amendment rights scrambling to outdo each other in making the most bizarre statements against fundamental freedoms.
2A opponents overlook the actual perpetrator to blame the instrument
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) took an extreme anti-gun position when interviewed by ABC’s Rebecca Jarvis. She noted that the state has tough “red flag” laws and yet the shooter slipped through the cracks.
Frey dismissed any responsibility on the part of the dead suspect and ranted about guns in the U.S. “We have more guns in America [than] people. I don’t see a reason why people should be able to buy a gun one month and then buy a gun the next month and then the next month after that.”
Minnesota officials overlook clear signals of a national mental health crisis
Many anti-gunners used the platform to renew their call to ban popular semi-automatic weapons.
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison (D) said the shooter might not have committed the heinous act if so-called “assault weapons” were prohibited. “An assault weapon ban may well have stopped her from using that weapon.”
American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten echoed this misguided sentiment when she supported a “nationwide assault weapons ban.” She even trotted out the discredited claim that guns are the number one killer of American children.
What is an unspeakable tragedy now serves as fodder for Second Amendment opponents to dismantle further the right to keep and bear arms.
While such calls may score points with the base, they do nothing to address the actual issue. The actions of deranged individuals should never result in the loss of constitutional rights.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
