Just like bad pennies, the misguided notions of anti-gunners never seem to truly go away. They are proposed, generally voted down, and then loudly resuscitated for another try.
That’s the case with the aptly named Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act. Reps. Kweisi Mfume (D-MD) and Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) trotted out this proposal last week to stop internet sales of Second Amendment-protected items.
Never mind that violent criminals generally do not shop for ammo online. It’s enough for Second Amendment opponents to erect every possible barrier between law-abiding citizens and gun rights.
No evidence of any connection between internet sales and crime was presented
“Since we last introduced this bill, the crisis of mass shootings has continued unabated,” Mfume claimed. “We’ve been living with this scourge of violence for so many years as assault weapons and enormous amounts of ammunition continue to fall into the hands of diabolical people. Mass shootings are not going to stop on their own, and we cannot keep waiting for the next one to occur.”
Mfume and his cronies offered no evidence that online sales fuel violent crime.
Supporters believe the ability to purchase ammunition online is a ‘loophole’
As for Watson Coleman, the representative incredibly said that the freedom to purchase ammunition online is a “loophole” that leads to mass shootings. She went further, framing the already-failed bill as a “commonsense” measure to enhance public safety.
Of course, anti-gunners describe every infringement on the Second Amendment freedoms of law-abiding Americans as “commonsense.”
The proposal would mandate that federally licensed ammunition dealers not only confirm purchasers’ identities, but also do so in person with a photo I.D.
Further, anyone who buys ammunition in bulk, such as competitive shooters, will be reported if they purchase more than 1,000 rounds within 5 consecutive days.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
