Some mistakes are easily corrected, and then others could lead to all questions about the afterlife being answered for a person.
In South Dakota early Saturday morning, a man nearly paid for his mistake with his life when he attempted to force his way into a home—the wrong one.
Resident was startled awake by the sound of someone coming in through a window
The Rapid City Police Department (RCPD) told reporters that the call came in at around 3:25 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering a gunshot wound described as serious but non-life threatening.
Then it got bizarre.
The unidentified resident told investigators he was awakened by the frightening, obvious sounds of someone attempting to force entry through a window. The homeowner quickly retrieved a weapon and fired at least one shot.
Apparently drunk man made a near-fatal mistake
As officers waited for medical personnel to arrive, they learned that the wounded individual was intoxicated. He apparently believed he was at the next-door house belonging to someone he knew when he tried to enter through the window.
Of course, this raises the question of why the suspect would enter the home of someone he knew through a window rather than the front door.
Either way, the suspect faces criminal charges. Authorities reviewed the evidence and initially concluded that the case was justified as self-defense.
Undoubtedly, the homeowner wishes that the allegedly drunken stranger had not forced them to fire their weapon, but they were left with little choice. There may be a very high price to pay for hesitation and trying to determine whether the person coming through your window is merely intoxicated or up to no good.
That’s a choice that could get a sympathetic homeowner killed.
