Armed Bystanders Stop Florida Man Allegedly Using Car to Ram Crowd. The right to keep and bear arms is a constitutional guarantee for law-abiding U.S. adults that should never be taken for granted. This means that upstanding citizens have the freedom to defend themselves from violent attacks.
Even when that attack is from an apparently crazed person attempting to use their car to plow through a crowd in Florida.
A simple argument quickly turned into something far more sinister
That terrifying scene unfolded Sunday night at a gathering of people in a driveway in Fort Myers. Police believe that 54-year-old Eduardo Lando-Matamoro of Hialeah responded to a verbal disagreement by using his vehicle as a battering ram to drive his point home.
Investigators report that he struck three individuals.
This alleged act of naked aggression prompted two bystanders to draw their weapons and open fire on Lando-Matamoro. He was struck in the shoulder and quickly attempted to flee the scene, but he was subdued and held for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office by one of the armed spectators.
Wounded suspect faces a heap of trouble for the alleged attack
Two of the alleged victims and Lando-Matamoro were treated in an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect faces three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon when he recovers.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno applauded the courageous acts of the armed witnesses when the frightening attack occurred. “Their quick actions made a real difference.”
An automobile is absolutely a deadly weapon, and the sheer lunacy of deliberately driving a vehicle into a crowd is almost certainly going to draw an armed response.
Thanks to the Second Amendment and Florida’s strong emphasis on personal freedoms, a bad scene was stopped from possibly becoming infinitely worse. That is the beauty of armed good guys being the first line of defense.
