An alarming and disturbing sight greeted a couple just before 3 a.m. Friday in Bismarck, North Dakota. The residents were awakened in the early morning hours to find a naked and very intoxicated man destroying their daughter’s room.

Thankfully she was not home.

Bismarck Police responded to the emergency call and found the man holding a firearm on the naked suspect. He told investigators they were in bed when they heard loud noises coming from downstairs. The Bismarck Tribune reported the man found the unclothed suspect and then grabbed his gun.

While he confronted the stranger with his weapon, his wife called 911.

The suspect was identified as Alvin Ducheneaux. The homeowners told police that when they discovered him, he was throwing objects including toys and clothes around the room. The intruder reportedly said he was in the house to pick up some clothing.

The couple apparently left a back door unlocked, which was how Ducheneaux gained entry. He allegedly destroyed a shoe rack and did an estimated $200 in damage to their daughter’s bedroom.

It is believed he possibly mistook their home for a neighbor’s, and law enforcement reported the suspect was very intoxicated. When he sobered up, he found himself in a world of trouble.

Ducheneaux faces charges of burglary, criminal mischief, willful damage and disorderly conduct. At last report he was detained in the local jail on a $5,000 cash bond. The felony burglary charge carries a sentence of up to 10 years.

A bad scene could have been infinitely worse if the daughter had been home. A drunk and naked stranger in a child’s bedroom is a recipe for disaster, especially if the parents are armed. Mistaken home identity or not, Ducheneaux was very fortunate to survive his wild night.
