Between gas stations, ATMs, and car washes, there are plenty of vulnerable spots where ordinary Americans are subject to being targeted by violent criminals. Increasingly, the targets are fighting back.
A suburban Atlanta gas station is the latest scene of the Second Amendment coming through and likely saving the life of an innocent citizen.
Two suspects allegedly attacked a gas station customer
It was Monday evening, just after 7:30, when police responded to an emergency call from a Covington Highway gas station in the Lithonia suburb. When they arrived, they found 19-year-old Tristyn Mays dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Shortly thereafter, another wounded man was found in the adjacent neighborhood. He was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries.
Police believe robbery was the motive of the alleged attackers.
Bullets flew in the parking lot as the innocent civilian protected himself
According to investigators, two men apparently attempted to rob a gas station customer as he exited the store. Amazingly, though both are thought to have fired on their target, neither connected.
Not so for the innocent civilian. He fired multiple shots back, promptly ending the alleged attack.
The owner of the business, Shehzaad Mohammed, shared security video footage of the deadly encounter and expressed shock that the robbery attempt hit so close to home.
A frightened woman could be seen getting out of her vehicle and running into the store to get away from the flying bullets. “Nothing like this has ever happened,” Mohammed said. “This is unusual. This is unexpected.”
Perhaps at his place of business, but nationwide, these attacks occur with alarming regularity. It should come as no surprise that good citizens are arming themselves and exercising their Second Amendment right to self-defense.
