Home invasions are rather like carjackings.
Not to say they never happened in days gone by, but even the terms are relatively new in the English language. Unfortunately, home invasions and carjackings are all too common in 2025, and with more and more citizens arming themselves, there are bound to be violent showdowns.
One such incident took place in unincorporated Phelan, California, early Wednesday morning. For the intended target, it became only the most recent example of the Second Amendment stepping up and potentially saving an innocent life.
Intended victim heard two suspects in his home in the middle of the night
A man was in his rural home when he discovered that he was not alone.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department released a statement detailing the frightening and potentially deadly encounter.
“The victim reported two suspects were inside his residence, and heard noise coming from another bedroom,” the statement read. “The victim retrieved a handgun, chased the suspects through the house, and fired off rounds toward the suspects.”

It is unclear whether either suspect was struck by gunfire because they are nowhere to be found. The search for the two who quickly fled the residence continues.
The homeowner took an aggressive approach to self-defense, and it paid enormous dividends. There are far too many anti-gunners, and a recent example just came from north of the border, who encourage the good people to simply cower in fear and hope their attackers are merciful.
That may be the answer for some, but tens of millions of Americans are their own first responders as they are ready to engage in armed self-defense. For one California man last week, that choice may have saved his life.
