California officials are nothing if not brazen in their attempts to eradicate the Second Amendment. The state Department of Justice recently announced an “emergency regulation” severely limiting the number of firearm instructors available for the training mandated for concealed carry permit applicants.

No longer eligible to provide this state-required service are National Rifle Association certified instructors.

This is obviously yet another ploy to get around the Supreme Court’s clear ruling that the people have the right to carry outside of the home for self-defense. Its purpose is to further slow the already tedious process of approving applications in the Golden State.

The California State Sheriff’s Association is pushing back. Calling the move “problematic,” the law enforcement group noted the roadblock officials are erecting between law-abiding citizens and the Constitution.

“A likely and obvious byproduct of reducing the number of trained and certified CCW instructors will be an increased difficulty in CCW applicants’ ability to access appropriate CCW training and certification. It can be argued that impeding access to sufficient numbers of adequate CCW instructors will jeopardize CCW applicants’ ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights lawfully.”

Of course. That is the entire purpose of the “emergency regulation.” What exactly is an emergency? Too many citizens are permitted to exercise their constitutional freedoms?

The association further noted that the measure will negatively impact small businesses and asked that it be withdrawn.

The California Rifle and Pistol Association is also upset about yet another state overreach. The process is already critically slow, and the gun rights advocacy group released a statement noting that it will only be more cumbersome under the new regulation.

“These new proposed emergency regulations strictly limit which instructors can provide CCW training in a system that already has a heavy load of too many students and not enough classes.”

In other words, a logjam that the people should not have to face to exercise their freedoms will only get worse. It is critical that this ill-advised move be mothballed at once.
