Gatalog and CTRLPew LLC. are companies that specialize in ultra-modern digital designs for legal firearms and accessories. Their products are enjoyed by Second Amendment enthusiasts nationwide, but maybe not for long.
California’s anti-gun establishment, specifically Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) and San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu (D), filed a lawsuit against the two businesses this month in Superior Court.
The plaintiffs seek to eliminate the distribution of computer code, digital files, and detailed instructions for hobbyists to 3D engineer firearms and accessories.
Authorities seek to control dissemination of computer code related to firearms
Bonta, who regularly leads California’s charge to eliminate gun rights, claimed that 3D printing is putting weapons in the wrong hands and wants it stopped.
“These defendants’ conduct enables unlicensed people who are too young or too dangerous to pass firearm background checks to illegally print deadly weapons without a background check and without a trace,” the AG declared. “This lawsuit underscores just how dangerous the ghost gun industry is and how much harm its skip-the-background-check business model has done to California communities.”
Precedent is clear on the issue of privately manufactured weapons
First of all, it is firmly established that code is protected free speech. From the U.S. Supreme Court down through the federal judicial system, authorities recognize that the First Amendment protects such communication, including the publication of complex data.
There is much noise from Second Amendment opponents over so-called “ghost guns.” The reality is that artisans and hobbyists have produced these weapons for hundreds of years, and now modern sportsmen use the latest technology to continue the tradition.
After all, violent criminals do not submit to background checks, and they will not be deterred by another meaningless statute that only targets law-abiding citizens.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
