Gun grabbers north of the border are busy wiping egg off their faces as the national confiscation scheme descends into chaos. The latest development demonstrates the frustration of the shooting community with incompetent government officials.
Canadian authorities promised the people that, if they sheepishly handed over their now-prohibited firearms, they would be justly compensated. In Alberta, gun owners declared over 7,000 of these firearms in the so-called “buyback” program with the assurance of payment for their property.
That’s now on hold.
Alberta officials told all provincial leaders to reject the ‘buyback’
Alberta is one of multiple provinces pushing back against the government program. Due to its resistance, gun owners who actually complied with the contentious buyback are left high and dry.
One is James Bachynsky, President of the Calgary Shooting Center. He spoke to Bearing Arms about ongoing problems with the controversial federal effort.
While the government offered $67,700 for weapons he valued at $80,000, even that lower sum is currently unattainable. “It’ll impact me personally, it’ll impact my business partners, my family.”
Canadians in droves ignored the March deadline to declare weapons
With Alberta’s leaders refusing to play along, gun owners are in limbo as the October deadline for handing over banned weapons approaches. The province insists that if Ottawa wants to confiscate firearms, it can do so without Alberta’s assistance.
Roughly 2,500 weapons were banned under the guise of getting “assault-style” guns off the streets. Of course, there are not many violent criminals lining up to hand the government their property, and precious few good citizens.
The March 31 deadline to declare prohibited firearms to officials came and went, and a paltry trickle of residents complied. Only an estimated 3% of eligible firearms were reported, leaving the federal government scrambling to get provinces in line.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
