Citigroup Drops Discriminatory Policy Against Firearm and Ammunition Industry

A major hurdle before the firearm and ammunition industry is now cleared with a powerful Wall Street financial firm announcing an end to discriminatory policies.

Citigroup declared that it will no longer restrict its professional services concerning Second Amendment-related businesses after halting such relationships in 2018.

Corporate leaders suddenly realized that the weapons industry provides a valuable service

The pivotal announcement was made in a blog post by Citigroup Executive Vice President of Enterprise Services and Public Affairs Ed Skyler.

He admitted that the financial services giant believes firearm retailers are “following these best practices.” Skyler added that the company hopes communities and lawmakers will continue to seek out ways to prevent the tragic consequences of gun violence.

This is a truly noble goal, but it is not one that could ever be achieved by denying credit lines to legitimate U.S. businesses that provide a valuable service.

Discriminatory practices against the gun industry are the norm on Wall Street

Though this individual battle was won, the war is far from over.

Citigroup reversed its ill-conceived policy, but several other industry giants still practice discrimination. For example, Bank of America, J.P. Morgan Chase, and Wells Fargo subject the weapons industry to the inexcusable denial of services.

Efforts at the state level to eradicate this insidious policy have been successful in 11 states, and there is currently a push at the national level to stop the blatant discrimination.

The Firearm Industry Nondiscrimination Act is pending in Congress and would end this practice nationwide. The Fair Access to Banking Act is also before the Senate and House and would remove political considerations from the banking industry’s everyday functions.

The passage of one or both would likely mean the end of singling out legal businesses for financial discrimination just to align with a political agenda. There’s no better way to support the 2A than with merch that speaks before you do.
