“Show your papers” is a familiar refrain from Cold War-era scripts, and there were many real-world instances of law-abiding citizens being forced to bend the knee for those in power.
In Illinois, the state requires good people to obtain a Firearm Owners Identification Act (FOID) card and always carry it on their person when they possess a firearm or ammunition.
Does this sound like anything remotely close to what the Founding Fathers intended when they enshrined the right to keep and bear arms?
These laws do nothing to protect the people from violent criminals
According to Fox News Digital, the New Civil Liberties Alliance (NCLA) filed suit on Tuesday against multiple Illinois officials over the state’s identification mandate. The legal challenge contends that the FOID requirement violated the Second and Fourteenth Amendments.
The NCLA is working on behalf of three private citizens who either refuse to submit to the FOID regime or already have a card but do not want to be burdened with the unconstitutional law.
According to NCLA Senior Litigation Counsel Jacob Huebert, this is an exercise in Orwellian government actions that do nothing to enhance public safety.
Illinois’ gun control infrastructure is about control, not public safety
“The police can approach you and demand you ‘show your papers’ to prove you’re allowed to exercise this right; otherwise, you are committing a crime,” Huebert declared. “Some people may have an urgent need to obtain a firearm for self-defense in their home because of a threat they face, yet they absolutely cannot do that. They have to file an application, go through the process, and wait as long as the state wants to take.”
He further explained that no other enumerated right is anywhere near as heavily restricted as the Second Amendment. At every level, it is up to the law-abiding citizens to prove that they are entitled to defend themselves.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
