There is much to be said about instances of a good guy with a gun that some do not want you to hear. While they enjoy rattling off instances where violent criminals misuse weapons, their silence is deafening when it comes to examples of law-abiding citizens defending themselves and others from these same lawbreakers.

Once such example came from Chicago on Saturday afternoon.

According to reports, a 68-year-old man was the intended robbery victim of a 19-year-old and three other alleged attackers. Unfortunately for the alleged attackers, the older man was legally armed and prepared.

According to CWB Chicago, the harrowing encounter happened just before 5 p.m. “in an alley.” Multiple suspects approached the man and are believed to have attempted to rob him.

But the concealed carry permit holder was able to draw his firearm and get off at least one shot. That bullet struck an unidentified suspect in the chest and prompted his associates to flee.

Responding officers found the suspect dead at the scene. He reportedly had just celebrated his 19th birthday last week.

The would-be victim stayed there until law enforcement arrived. He explained the situation he faced and said he shot the young man in self-defense.

The particular area where this latest incident occurred, the Chicago PD’s 12th District, is suffering from an alarming crime wave. Robberies so far in 2023 are up 57% from last year and a staggering 122% from 2020.

It is no wonder that residents of Chicago and other major U.S. cities are arming themselves. People who reside in the Windy City’s 12th District do not need to be told that they are in danger.

With that much of a skyrocketing crime rate, they see it all around them.

That’s where good guys with guns come in. No one wants to have to shoot an alleged criminal attacker, but it’s better than being a helpless victim. That much was proven by an elderly man on Saturday.
