The revamped Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) has come far from its recent weaponization by anti-gun forces, but it still has a way to go.
That was proven with great emphasis this week through a controversial post on X that smeared upstanding gun owners for hours—before eventually being amended.

The ATF posted a picture with a post that showed a person’s shirt being lifted in the front by a law enforcement officer. Tucked into the man’s jeans was a pistol.
The caption read, “Take a look at our world. This is a scenario @ATFWashington frequently faces when combating violent crime and maintaining public safety. Many people attempt to conceal firearms on their person or belongings, which puts everyone involved at risk.”
Really? Concealed carry is a threat to the ATF and public safety?
Officials responded to the loud criticism and ‘corrected’ the tweet
The outcry was immediate, as millions of Americans choose to defend themselves and their loved ones every day by exercising concealed carry rights.
Ammoland posted a fiery response to the ATF message. “Concealed carry is not the issue—you are. Millions of law-abiding citizens carry concealed every single day without incident. Concealed carry saves lives. Disarming people and vilifying them on social media doesn’t.”
It took just over a day, but the ATF responded to the criticism and amended its tweet. The new posting declared that “many CRIMINALS attempt to conceal firearms…”
Undoubtedly true, and far more accurate. The agency charged with defending and overseeing Second Amendment rights should clearly know the difference.
There are admirable reforms ongoing at the ATF, and it might be a good idea to acquaint the person in charge of social media with the Second Amendment.
