Florida Restaurant Customer Uses Legal Firearm to Protect Himself from Alleged Attack. The Founding Fathers added the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights for many reasons, one of the most fundamental of which was the ability of everyday citizens to defend themselves.

A Florida man exercised this freedom Thursday evening at a Lakeland restaurant when he was allegedly attacked by two other men.

It was two against one until the victim radically evened the odds

Investigators believe an unidentified 24-year-old man was accosted at the front entrance of the Cali Rose 15 Kitchen by two suspects. They were later identified as 28-year-old Jesse Banks and 26-year-old Nicholas Lue, and police determined they started an argument with the intended victim.

The Lakeland Police Department (LPD) reported that the confrontation turned physical when a suspect struck the younger man in the head. Another man opened the restaurant door, prompting Banks and Lue to allegedly produce handguns and point them at him.

LPD determined that the 24-year-old then drew his own weapon and fired multiple shots.

No charges have been filed against the man who reportedly defended himself

First responders transported both suspects to the hospital, where Banks later died from his injuries. Lue is expected to recover.

Authorities revealed that the intended victim remained on the scene and is fully cooperating with their investigation. As of the last report, no charges were filed, and if the facts of the incident hold up, there is no reason to believe they are forthcoming.

Florida is one of many states recognizing “Stand Your Ground” rights and giving much latitude to those under attack. And while the loss of life is unfortunate, it is not a wise decision to assault someone in the Sunshine State.

There is a high likelihood that the target may be armed and ready to defend themselves.
