Gavin Newsom: Gun Industry Should Not Be Protected from Lawsuits In a recent Tweet, California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) called for “greedy” gun manufacturers to be held accountable for deaths not directly caused by their actions.

Gavin Newsom: Gun Industry Should Not Be Protected from Lawsuits

As reported by Breitbart, Newsom claims that every other industry is held accountable when their products hurt or kill people and gun manufacturers should be no different.

Newsom has repeatedly asked the California Legislature to send him legislation allowing private citizens the right to sue “assault weapons” manufacturers.

While gun manufacturers are not totally immune to lawsuits, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act does provide protections to gun manufacturers if the weapons in question were legally produced and legally sold.

Not everyone believes that the gun itself is responsible for the rapid increase in gun crime.

Larry Keane, general counsel for the National Shooting Sports Foundation believes that policies such as “Defund the Police” and the “Hug a Thug” program are the real reason for the rampant gun crime that currently plagues California and sees this as nothing more than an attempt to “piggyback” lawsuits onto the back of crimes.
