GOA: NH Gun Owners Face a Flood of Firearm-Related Legislative Measures

January is the month when state lawmakers nationwide roll out their proposals, and they are a mixed bag every year for law-abiding gun owners.

New Hampshire is the latest prime example of the double-edged sword that is new legislation. Some of these measures strengthen Second Amendment rights and uphold fundamental freedoms that all upstanding citizens should enjoy.

And then, there are blatant infringements on the right to keep and bear arms. Gun Owners of America (GOA) conveniently listed those that are honorable and those destined for a legal fight.

2A supporters introduced a flurry of bills to enhance gun rights

First, those that deserve our support.

One proposal, HB 1446, protects gun rights for citizens who use medical marijuana. HB 1365 answers the call to streamline the New Hampshire application process to carry a firearm, and HB 1793 extends gun rights to those on public college and university campuses.

Another bill reforms outdated restrictions on loaded firearms on waterways, and still another protects weapons manufactured and possessed entirely in the state from federal oversight.

Gun rights opponents wasted no time pushing their wishlist

Then some proposals should circle the drain.

Anti-2A forces submitted HB 1642 to establish so-called “red flag” laws, or Extreme Risk Protection Orders. Supporters of these legal structures claim they are needed to defend victims from violent predators, such as abusive relationship partners.

While that is a noble goal, the execution of these orders is fraught with injustices. These “red flag” systems generally hold little regard for due process rights of gun owners, and firearm rights may be stripped on nothing more than word of mouth.

Finally, there’s HB 1387. This legal travesty seeks to remove protections for the weapons industry from frivolous lawsuits funded by endless taxpayer dollars.

It is also in direct violation of federal law and would never withstand judicial scrutiny. But don’t count on that discouraging New Hampshire’s anti-gunners anytime soon.

There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.

Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
