Anti-gunners live by the mantra that they should never allow a tragedy to go to waste. After a clearly disturbed individual opened fire at a Manhattan high-rise Monday evening, one jumped to the forefront to capitalize on the chaos.
A 27-year-old man shot and killed four people at the Midtown office building before turning a gun on himself.
Now, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) wants to respond by banning semi-automatic weapons nationwide.
Hochul wants every state to fall in line with New York’s gun control agenda
Even as the investigation into Monday’s tragedy began, Hochul appeared on CNN’s “Inside Politics” to rant about the Second Amendment. She declared that a new federal ban on so-called “assault weapons” is now necessary.
“If every state had the same laws uniformly, you could not have a situation where we fight really hard in the state of New York to make sure that we have the toughest gun laws in the nation,” Hochul complained.
Perhaps she should rethink her position.
Anti-gunners want to pretend the Second Amendment does not exist
That’s because a majority of the states support law-abiding citizens owning these popular sporting rifles. Tens of millions are in circulation in the U.S., and they are used every day for everything from sport shooting to self-defense.
Furthermore, Hochul displays little understanding of our federal system of government. State laws vary because constituencies are different, but there are sweeping rights granted to everyone through the Constitution.
One is the ability to keep and bear arms.
Just as the people enjoy freedom of speech and religion no matter the state in which they reside, there is also the specific liberty guaranteed by the Second Amendment. If Hochul truly wants all states to agree, that’s a good place to start.
There’s no better way to support the 2A than with merch that speaks before you do.
