A frightening break-in ends with a fatal shooting and thankful residents
Investigators in the Atlanta suburb of Gwinnett County continue to probe the fatal shooting of a suspected burglar by a homeowner on Monday morning.
According to reports, the suspect entered the residence through the rear and was immediately confronted by individuals inside. Someone there called the police and reported the break-in, leading to a standoff with the residents and authorities.
Officers surrounded the home and prepared to enter and confront the suspect. But as they went inside, the confrontation exploded and at least one shot rang out.
Prosecutors are unlikely to press charges against the homeowner
What exactly transpired as the police entered remains unclear. The suspect was pronounced dead, and authorities have not identified the individual who lost their life.
Thankfully for the person who fired the fatal shot, Georgia is a bastion for the Second Amendment and self-defense rights. Without an unexpected bombshell, it is highly doubtful that prosecutors will choose to charge the homeowner.
