House Passes Bill to Expand Carry Rights for Off-Duty and Retired Police Officers. Constitutional rights should not be terminated or changed just for crossing a state line or being on private property open to the public. That is the legal quagmire that law-abiding gun owners find themselves in regularly, though that may soon change for a particular demographic.

If a bill approved by the House last week becomes law, current and former law enforcement officers will be able to carry their firearms in many more areas.

Officers would be free to carry in spaces that are currently off-limits

Representatives’ 229-193 vote on the Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act (LEOSA) advanced the bill, which has a companion version in the Senate.

A current or former officer who is up to date with training requirements would be able to legally carry on private property accessible to the public, school zones, federal parks, and other locations.

This change would significantly increase the presence of armed defenders and protect law enforcement officers from targeted attacks.

Political rivals set aside differences to support the bill

Bill cosponsor Rep. Don Bacon (R-TX) praised the bipartisan vote to expand legal carry rights for officers.

“I’m pleased today the House passed my bipartisan LEOSA Reform Act, which offers real solutions to address threats such as terrorism and mass shootings by ensuring that our retired and off-duty law enforcement officers can exercise their right to concealed carry—no matter where they live or visit,” Bacon declared. “These measured changes will make existing law stronger and more workable for those who seek its benefits while maintaining the rigorous standards that currently apply.”

14 Democrats broke with party ranks to join 215 House Republicans in supporting this public safety measure.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) introduced the Senate version of HR 2243, which unfortunately is struggling to gain traction in the upper chamber. The Anti Anti-2A Social Club is more than a name—it’s a stand against misinformation, double standards, and the relentless attacks on our rights.
