An apparent daytime home invasion attempt in Florida did not go as planned as the resident’s use of a firearm injured one suspect and sent the other two on a mad scramble for their lives.
This latest feel-good story unfolded Monday just before noon at a Miami Gardens home. Police were called to the scene on reports that three individuals forced their way into a residence, followed by the sound of gunfire.
There is no word on the identity or age of the homeowner, but it stands to reason that the three individuals did not believe they would encounter armed resistance. They were wrong.
Resident apparently retreated until it was no longer an option
The resident armed himself when the frightening encounter began, and he was in the bedroom, likely attempting to hide from the three suspects who allegedly broke in.
That option was removed as investigators believe one of the three entered the bedroom brandishing a rifle. That brought at least one gunshot in response, striking the suspect in the arm and immediately ending the evening’s plans.
No charges against the resident who defended himself have been reported
The other two ran for their lives and are still being sought. Neighbors who did not wish to go on the record reported hearing multiple gunshots Monday morning.
The wounded suspect was transported to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital in an undisclosed condition. His name has not been released, but suffice it to say, he is in a world of trouble.
Miami-Dade officials did not immediately reveal whether the homeowner will face charges, though that appears doubtful given the circumstances of the confrontation. And once again, there is a shining example of the power of the Second Amendment in defending good people from violent criminals.
